Rugby Premiership Week 3: Points Progression

Greetings. The points progression charts from Game Week 3 of the Nile Special Rugby Premiership.

For clarity on the team initials used, check the preamble of the Week 2 points progression report here.

Despite having a lead for 47 minutes of the game, Walukuba conceded two late tries and were one missed attempt at goal away from registering a third successive loss of the season.

Heathens were scoring a try every 6 minutes during their encounter against Elgon Wolves. For the second consecutive game, the Wolves did not score a try. Malcolm Okello had the most points in the game, helped by a 9/13 (69%) success rate from the boot.

From Week 3, the Hippos-Warriors fixture had the most identical outcome to the last three encounters between these two teams. Going into the game, the average full time score between the two was 40.67-13.33 in favour of Hippos, and they went on to win 41-15. Warriors however had a better day off the tee, gaining 1.98 points from their expected points of the day, whereas Hippos were 4.77 below expected points due to 4 missed attempts at goal.

Both KOBs and Eagles scored more points than they did in last year's meeting. Eagles scored the opening try within the first two minutes on Saturday whereas KOBs did the same a year before. Joseph Aredo and Josiah Ssempeke combined for 10 out of 11 successful attempts at goal, to surpass their combined expected points by 4.62. For the third consecutive game, Eagles kickers have left points on the board, managing 2/4 on place kicks and 1/2 on drop goal attempts.

None of these teams had surpassed the 30-point mark in their last 5 meetings, but on Saturday both teams put up a combined 72 points for the third-highest aggregate score of the day. Robin Odrua, Ivan Kirabo and Joshua Musasizi collectively made 13 of their 16 attempts on goal (81.25%) in the game.

Pirates were trailing between the 5th and 20th minutes, the only time they have fallen behind during a game this season. Despite their lowest score of the season, their 3 try-effort earned them a win. Victoria Sharks only managed 1 successful attempt at goal from 6 on the day.
