Rugby Premiership Week 5: Points Progression

Greetings. While working on the points progression charts for Week 5, news broke of the passing of Eagles RFC player Ronnie Kayondo. It was decided to delay the publication of the week's reviews to allow for the mourning. We keep the Kayondo family, the Eagles RFC and the wider sports community in our prayers and thoughts. For those in a position to provide support, hopefully the details below are helpful.

From the weekend's games, the Pirates vs Heathens clash at King's Park stood out as the fixture of the round. Due to their 22-point comeback in the closing 20 minutes of the game, I thought it best to focus on the day's points accumulation without bringing in a comparison with past performances. So, save for the Walukuba-Mongers game, the rest of the games only have points accumulation from Saturday's action.

In the featured game of the week, Pirates came back from a 22-point deficit to record a 33-31 victory against Heathens. Heathens conceded four tries in the last 20 minutes of the game. Prior to the game, Heathens had conceded 7 tries in 4 games; a rate of 1 try every 45 minutes. The kicking success rate was similar across both teams. William Nkore made 5 of his 10 attempts at goal, for a total of 13 points in the game. For Heathens, Aaron Ofoyrwoth made 3 of his 5 attempts, whereas Joseph Oyet missed his sole attempt at goal.

KOBs registered a second-consecutive win at Kyadondo in as many weeks. Victoria Sharks didn't score any points in the second half. Fresh off a 6/6 kicking performance in Week 4, Joseph Aredo made 4/5 conversion attempts on the day.

Both teams scored two tries each, and their score margin never exceeded more than seven points. Buffaloes edged the points from the boot (8 off the tee and a drop goal), to take the game.

Hippos dominated their game against Elgon Wolves, leading for 76.25% of the game. It's the first time they didn't trail in a game since Week 1.

Both Walukuba and Mongers exceeded the average points from their three previous encounters. Walukuba scored six tries in their first 40+ point score in the League. Mongers have lost two games this season where they have scored 30+ points. Both teams recorded gains on their expected points from the tee.

Rhinos returned to winning ways in a close game. The Warriors held a lead for 12 minutes (15%), compared to Rhinos' combined lead of 63 minutes (78.75%). Hamza Kinyai had 2 conversions and 2 penalties, to outperform his expected points by 2.24 points. On the other hand, Ivan Kirabo underperformed his expected points by 4.79 points, after slotting only 2 penalties out of his seven available shots at goal.
