2026 Premiership Week 5

Greetings. Game Week 5 saw Mongers fall to Pirates at King's Park (23-61) and thus relinquish their top spot to the latter. After gaining two consecutive winning bonus points, KOBs failed to secure a winning bonus point as Impis responded with 3 tries to KOBs'5 tries. Rhinos registered their first win of 2026, leaving Warriors and Kakira Simbas as the only teams without a win.

Due to the nearing Enterprise Cup, there was limited coverage in Week 5, focusing solely on the non-broadcast game between Rhinos and Walukuba.

At halftime, Rhinos were trailing 03-10 against Walukuba, the latter having conceded more penalties. In the second half, the Walukuba penalty count got out of hand, as the team had 2 players sent to the sinbin.  Walukuba conceded 14 penalties, including 9 in the area between the Halfway line and their own try line. Of these, Rhinos scored a try on one occasion, and attempted a kick at goal on 5 occasions, converting thrice, including the last penalty conceded by Walukuba, to take the lead for the first time during the game.

Chasing History

🌟Hippos host Walukuba in the seventh Premiership meeting between the two teams. Hippos have won 6 meetings, with their only loss coming at Abel Dhaira in 2018, 12-14. Walukuba will be looking to win a first Jinja derby game in 8 years.

🌟Roy Bartholomew Kizito scored a hat-trick in game week 5. This is the longest it has taken to get a 3+ try scorer in the Rugby Premiership; Pius Ogena scored a quartet of tries in the 2021 season opener vs Rhinos, in 2022 Joseph Oyet (Heathens) scored 3 tries in the Week 1 game against Buffaloes, in 2023 Aaron Tukei scored 3 tries in Week 1 vs Rhinos, in 2024 Andrew Odhiambo (Hippos) and Michael Amollo (Heathens) had 3 tries each in their respective Week 2 encounters against Walukuba and Warriors, and in 2025 Michael Wokorach (Heathens) scored 4 tries in the Week 3 fixture against Elgon Wolves. The most recent occurence of a player scoring 3+ tries in back-to-back games was in the 2025 Premiership as Michael Wokorach scored 4 tries in Week 3 vs Elgon Wolves before touching down thrice in Week 4 against Rhinos.

🌟Aaron Tukei scored in his fifth consecutive game to start the season, matching the feat of Norbert Okeny (Heathens) and Timothy Kisiga (Pirates). In Week 6 he will be looking to become the first player since 2021 to score at least a try in each of his first 6 games of the season.
