2026 Rugby Premiership Week 6: Chasing The Enterprise Cup

Greetings. The Rugby Premiership concluded Week 6 over the weekend, marking the halfway point. Buffaloes completed a fourth straight win in the Premiership to cement their second-place position. Pirates won back-to-back games at King's Park to remain top of the log. KOBs moved into third with a fourth straight win, coming away in Kakira. Walukuba Barbarians emerged victorious, 34-19 in the Jinja derby, a first derby win since 2018. In the Kyadondo derby, Heathens triumphed over Victoria Sharks, 30-05 to ensure that each team has lost at least one game.

For the first time since 2020, there was a walkover in the Men's Premiership when Warriors didn't turn up to play Mongers in Entebbe.

Rhinos vs Buffaloes: Horny Affair 2026

Buffaloes had 13 throws on the 18 lineouts in the game at Kyambogo, but the sucess rate was dismal - retaining possession on only 5 (38.46%). Edgar Luminsa was the only one of the three hookers to attain a success rate above 50%.

Buffaloes were dismal on their own throws, however, both teams had intent on the opponent's lineout throws. The only blemish to Edgar Luminsa's throws was Joseph Teko stealing 2/5, and on the Buffaloes' throws Joseph Akol (Rhinos) stole 2, with another overthrow being turned over by Louis Oboi (Rhinos).

In the scrum set piece, of the 6 front row positions on both sides, only 2 people were subbed off; Rhinos Stephen Kinyera coming on for his season debut in place of Sardou Dunia at loose-head prop and Buffaloes taking off Ronald Kanyanya for Meddie Abdallah. The Rhinos starting front-row of Dunia, Luminsa and Oboi participated in 16 scrums, winning all 7 Rhinos feeds and forcing a penalty on 2/9 Buffaloes' feeds.

In the flyhalf battle, Yasin Waiswa was more of a pass-first flyhalf on the day; part of the sequence of passes that led to the Daniel Otim try (Humphrey Ndahura assist). Waiswa made one carry, scoring Buffaloes second try of the day. Ivan Kirabo opted to kick more on the day, opening the score with a drop goal and ending the half with another drop goal. On overall attempts at goal, he converted 5/6; the best goal rate of the weekend when incuding both drop goals and place kicks. Of the 21 balls he receives, he opted to kick on 10 occasions.

Chasing Enterprise Cup History

🌟It is 100 years since the HMS Enterprise was commissioned, and 98 years since the team from the HMS Enterprise played against Kampala RFC, a fixture that ended 11-06 in favour of Kampala. Uganda has been invited to take part in the Enterprise Cup for the first time since 2006, with a chance to win the coveted trophy for the first time since 1970.

🌟Black Pirates and Buffaloes join Kampala RFC, Nile RFC, Uganda Police RFC, KOBs RFC, Makerere Impis RFC and Heathens RFC as the Ugandan clubs to have featured in the Enterprise Cup.

🌟Black Pirates will be making their Enterprise Cup debut. They have previously played in the Mwamba Cup, being pitted against JKUAT in 2001 and Nondies II the following year. In 2008 under Head Coach Sam Ahamya the club attempted to participate in the tournament, with a successful invite but the fixture was not honoured.

🌟Buffaloes are making their XVs debut against Kenyan opposition. The club has faced Kenyan opposition before, in the Makerere 10s.

🌟Heathens have previously participated in the Enterprise Cup, famously defeating Ulinzi in Round 1 of 2002 before losing the Second Round fixture against Impala 13-14 in Nairobi.

🌟Kampala Old Boys (KOBs) have the deepest connection to the Enterprise Cup of any Ugandan side. The club is a product of 4-time Enterprise Cup champions Kampala RFC, and KOBs' dominance in the late 1990s earned them automatic qualification to represent Uganda in the Enterprise Cup more than any other club. KOBs face Nondies, the team that eliminated Kampala RFC the last time Uganda participated in the Enterprise Cup in July 2006.

🌟Marvin Odongo, Brian Makalama, Tolbert Onyango and Charles Onen will look to go one better than Fred Mudoola, the last coach to lead a Ugandan side in a regional final when he led Rwenzori to the 2012 and 2013 Bamburi Super Series finals.
